In 1993, I started High Country Gardens, the mail order division of Santa Fe Greenhouses, my retail nursery company in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Our online catalog has been in operation since 2000, with my wife, Ava Salman, heading the marketing and e-commerce operations.
New Retail Garden Center
In 2006, we opened the High Country Gardens retail garden center at the Jackalope store in Albuquerque. The 6500 square foot garden center is stocked with our quality High Country Gardens plants and merchandise. Map

Dear David:
Thanks for your praise to Dr. Reese Halter here in Los Angeles.
He is an amazing man and a true friend and lover of our little friends, the bees!
I run a Hollywood publicity firm and we are working with Dr. Halter and plan to produce a documentary, THE BEE KEEPER. Our goal is to educate and inform the public about the importance of our honey bee and to raise awareness of the dangers from their decline worldwide.
It is an important fight. The bee is in a serious decline at the hands of humanity and we must do what we can to educate the public and reverse the decline.
Again, thank you for raising awareness of Dr. Halter’s book and encouraging your followers to use it!
Next time I am in Santa Fe (usually about 4 times a year) would love to meet you.
Kind regards,
Warren Betts

Dear Warren:
I’ve just become acquainted with Dr. Halter’s writings and am thrilled to discover his work. He has a wonderful way of explaining his knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
Their is nothing more important than healthy populations of bees. They are bellweather creatures reflecting the health of the plant.
I can’t wait to view your documentary and help publicize it, especially to the gardening community.
Please visit next time you’re in Santa Fe.
David
Dear David,
I am a student at Cal State University Dominguez Hills and I am currently working on a class project where I am creating game. The game deals with building a man made island and farming on it. I was hoping you could give me some advise on what types of eatable plants would work on a man made island (plants that grow in a sand or a sand and soil mix). Or if you could guide me to where I could find more information on growing plants in sand and farming in a sand based soil.
Thank you
Lissette
Lissette:
This question falls a bit outside of my expertise as an intermountain gardener. I would suggest looking up information on tropical food production with a focus on island situations. You might also look up food production in Israel. They probably deal with sandy desert soils all the time.
Good luck with your virtual world.
